*Burgoo: a spicy stew with cornbread served as an American Midwestern & Southern social event in which each attendee brings one or more ingredients

Life-long Midwesterner and world traveler, Gail Payne presents a savory and sweet potluck of musical perspectives on the American dream.  With a variety of ingredients from the musical gardens of Gershwin and Sondheim to Mellencamp and the Dixie Chicks, Payne cooks up a thought-provoking and entertaining evening that celebrates the complex flavors required for our increasingly nuanced American palate.

Change is in the Air

Change is in the air in more ways than one:

  • it’s already fall and will soon be winter, and
  • children (young and old) are plotting Halloween tricks and treats.

Opening for Faith Prince: "Have a Little Faith"

For the past year, I've had the amazing opportunity to be coached by Faith Prince. She is a beloved Broadway baby with Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance as Ms. Adelaide in "Guys and Dolls" as well as nominations for her roles in "A Catered Affair," "Bells are Ringing," "Nick and Nora," "Jerome Robbin's Broadway" and many others.

I'm incredibly honored that The Cabaret at the Columbia Club has invited me to open for Faith with a couple songs on Sat., Oct 22!

I met Faith initially in 2012 at the International Cabaret Conference at Yale University. We reconnected last at the St. Louis Cabaret Conference and this year, two other conference participants and I had the honor of opening for Faith and Jason Graae "The Prince & the Show Boy" in St. Louis at the Sheldon Auditorium (see video right).

Faith has changed my life and shown me how to live my bliss! She has been instrumental in helping me take my cabaret performance to an entirely new level. She is a dear friend and mentor and now also the Director of my new show "Red, White & Blue Burgoo" (coming to Indianapolis in 2017)!

LET IT SHINE at The Emerald Room, St. Louis, MO

TICKETS

I'm making my St. Louis debut at The Emerald Room, a new, intimate venue featuring cabaret performers from St. Louis and around the U.S.

This show was created for the annually-themed Spirit & Place Festival at the Jazz Kitchen in Indianapolis. Selected as one of nearly 30 events city-wide to interpret the "DREAM" theme, "Let It Shine" is a quintessential cabaret performance using carefully curated songs to tell a story.

My inspiration for this show comes from my favorite quote: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.  It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. ... We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”-- Marianne Williamson

What started as a notch on my bucket list has become a full-fledged career pursuit. Four years ago, I mustered the courage to my her light shine as I serenaded friends in my living room. Living into my dream to sing professionally, “Let It Shine” is my fifth solo cabaret show expressing my passion for weaving together songs and stories not only about my journey to sing solo, but also to find love and live happily ever after. Music will include classics from the Great American Songbook, Broadway, jazz, folk/country, and popular music.

As long as I can remember, I have loved to sing. My journey from dreaming to reality has taken many turns. Just four years ago, I mustered the courage to sing for a few friends in my living room and now I'm producing my second solo show at The Jazz Kitchen this year!

Through the Spirit & Place Festival's "dream" theme, I aim to prove that it's never too late to live your dreams. I've curated this show as an exclusive Spirit & Place Festival 75-minute cabaret performance featuring songs and stories not only about my story, but our shared journey to achieve dreams, live through nightmares, and awaken to a life we never could have imagined.

With music from the Great American Songbook, Broadway, jazz, and popular music, I'm honored to be accompanied by several great Indy musicians:
Piano -- David Duncan
Drums -- Steve Hanna
Guitar -- Sandy Williams

My inspiration for this show comes from one of my favorite quotes:

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”  -- Marianne Williamson
